PITTSBURGH -- Mario Lemieux, still in his skates and full uniform ten minutes after playing in the Winter Classic alumni game Friday morning, strolled into the crowded press room at Heinz Field with a weary smile on his face."I'm glad it's over," joked Lemieux, referring to the alumni game between his Penguins and the Washington Capitals, which ended in a 5-5 tie.
The Penguins owner certainly didn't mean the Winter Classic weekend itself, which is threatened by forecasts of heavy rains and unseasonably warm temperatures. The main event between Sidney Crosby's Penguins and Alexander Ovechkin's Capitals is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. With so much rain in the forecast, the opening faceoff could be pushed back on Saturday as late as 8:00 p.m. ET. If New Year's Day is a washout, the game could go head-to-head with the National Football League on Sunday, a scenario no one involved in the Classic wants.
