And, after Dedryck Boyata headed a consolation for the home side, Lampard marked his 350th league appearance for Chelsea by completing a hat-trick.
The result piled further pressure on Owen Coyle whose team not only possesses the division's worst defensive record but has now lost six straight games and 11 of their last 12 Premier League outings.
THE GOALS
2 mins: The rout started when Sturridge is left unmarked to head in Juan Mata's right-wing corner from six yards. (0-1)
15 mins: A superb, flowing move ends with Sturridge crossing for Lampard to drill home from six yards. (0-2)
26 mins: Sturridge cuts in from the left, past Dedryck Boyata, and fires in a shot which Adam Bogdan helps into his own goal. (0-3)
27 mins: David Luiz is allowed to advance 50 yards before shooting from 25. Bogdan spills the ball straight to Lampard who nets the rebound. (0-4)
46 mins: Martin Petrov clips over a free-kick and Boyata guides a neat header down and past Petr Cech. (1-4)
58 mins: Lampard and Drogba link superbly with the former taking back a neat lay-off and claiming his hat-trick from a dozen yards. (1-5)
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
3 mins: Sturridge shoots just wide of the left-hand post from 25 yards.
16 mins: A Lampard shot is saved, at the second attempt, by Bogdan.
21 mins: Mata surprisingly skies his shot over from just 12 yards as Chelsea continue to press.
45 mins: Mata again tests Bogdan with the keeper making a clean save this time.
55 mins: Sturridge's pass finds Drogba whose attempt on goal is blocked by Zat Knight. Ramires should do better with an off-target shot from the corner.
60 mins: Kevin Davies tries to lob Petr Cech but succeeds only in chipping the ball into the keeper's arms.
81 mins: Davies thinks he has pulled one back for Wanderers when he steers Petrov's cross goalwards only to see Branislav Ivanovic clear off the line.
87 mins: Chris Eagles' long shot strikes the Chelsea post, the back of keeper Cech and rebounds to safety.

WHAT IT MEANS
Serious problems for Bolton, given the manner of their collapse, and the fact they have lost 11 of their last 12 league games. Much more of this and, surely, Coyle's position will start to come under serious scrutiny. Chelsea march on - easily on a par with the two Manchester clubs - and, arguably, no team looks in better form in the Premier League at present.

MAN OF THE MATCH:
Frank Lampard (Chelsea): What a way to celebrate a landmark game. The Bolton defending, the marking in particular, was woeful but the finishing and passing that led to the Chelsea goals was fantastic and Lampard's role in that very significant.
