Andy Murray Thrashes Donald Young to Clinch Thailand Open Crown

Filed under:

Andy MurrayBritish No. 1 Andy Murray claimed his third title of the season after breezing past Donald Young in the final of the Thailand Open.

The world No. 4 claimed a 6-2 6-0 triumph over the American, who is 55th in the ATP rankings, in just 48 minutes in Bangkok.

It was a 19th career title for the Scot, as he moved 2-1 ahead of his opponent in their career head-to-head, having slumped to a surprise loss to him at Indian Wells before beating him at the US Open.

Next up for Murray is this week's tournament in Tokyo, where world No. 2 Rafael Nadal is among the field.

REACTION:
Murray admitted it was a near-perfect performance:

"I barely made any errors. I was able to take all of my opportunities. It was a great match for me. I played very well, by far my best match of the tournament.

"I made it difficult for him to do anything. He picked up a bit in the middle of the first set but by the second I was in control."

On this week's forthcoming tournament in Tokyo:
"It's a big change of surface and Tokyo's not that close. I may have to be realistic in my expectations a bit, but this was a great week for me and it helps to begin the Asian section of the season like this."

Young admitted he was outclassed by the Scot:
"This was my first final, I wasn't nervous, but he just took me out of my game," stated Young, who will rise to a career-high ranking inside the top 50 when the next rankings are released on Monday.

"I still can't be disappointed about the week, getting to the top 50 has been one of my goals. He played very well and I couldn't do much."
